UNODC GMCP officials visit Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command

A delegation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP), led by Minister Counsellor, Mr Kikuchi Noboyuki embarked on visits to the Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command on 30th and 31st May 2024.

On 30th May, the delegation engaged in a bilateral discussion with senior naval officers, including the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Pradeep Ratnayake, addressing key issues of mutual interest. To mark the significance of the occasion, both parties exchanged mementos.

On the following day (31st May), they visited the Eastern Naval Command and met with Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, Commander Eastern Naval Area. Subsequently, the members of the delegation also attended the closing ceremony of Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) handling training course at the Special Boat Squadron Headquarters, where they participated in awarding certificates to the course participants.

Senior and junior officers as well as sailors from the Eastern Naval Command were also present at the certificate awarding ceremony.
