Rear Admiral Hiran Balasooriya retired from naval service
Relinquishing duties to which he was committed over 33 years, Rear Admiral Hiran Balasooriya retired from naval service today (21st May 2024).
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, flanked by the Navy’s Board of Management, extended warm wishes to the retiring naval officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Balasooriya was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions, before fellow naval officers making their formal farewells to the outgoing senior officer, appreciative of his service. Subsequently, he was sent off in a motorcade through the portals of Navy Headquarters, amidst cheers.
Rear Admiral Hiran Balasooriya joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 08th intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in 1990. Throughout his distinguished career, the senior officer has served as Deputy Director Civil Engineering (Special Projects), Captain Civil Engineering Department (South), Captain Civil Engineering Department (East), Deputy Director (Sri Lanka Navy Construction Unit – Defence Headquarters Complex Akuregoda), Deputy Director (Special Projects), Deputy Director Naval Civil Engineering, Director Naval Civil Engineering, Director Naval Civil Engineering and Consultant Engineer (President House Special Projects) & Presidential Secretariat as Director(Engineering) and Director General Civil Engineering stood prominent.
