Mini CARAT – 2024 begins in Sampoor
The Mini Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) bilateral maritime exercise 2024 between the United States Pacific Fleet and the Sri Lanka Navy commenced in Sampoor, Trincomalee today (22nd April 2024). The opening of the bilateral maritime exercise got under way under the auspices of the Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage and Defence Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, Lieutenant Colonel Anthony C. Nelson.
Commenced with the aim of promoting maritime cooperation and security, Mini CARAT– 2024 will be held from 22nd to 26th April. It will feature a wide range of exercises and programmes including Force Protection Exercise, Small Unmanned Aircraft (sUAS), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Women Peace and Security (WPS) in Trincomalee and Colombo with the participation of Sri Lanka Navy Marines, Sri Lanka Navy Infantry Unit and U.S. Marine Corps.
