The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera on 14th March 2024 symbolically handed over prosthetic legs to 03 naval war veterans, disabled during the humanitarian operation. The generous gesture came into being at the Navy Headquarters as part of the programme of providing prosthetic legs to disabled naval war veterans.
The war heroes have made significant sacrifices to protect the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity, ending nearly three decades of terrorism. Their sacrifices, including the loss of lives and disabilities suffered by personnel from the Armed Forces, Police, and Civil Defence Force, were crucial in successfully ending terrorism once and for all.
The Ranaviru Seva Authority has implemented a programme to provide prosthetic legs to war heroes who have lost their legs due to war. In the initial phase of a programme aimed at providing prosthetic legs to naval personnel who have lost their legs, the Commander of the Navy oversaw the presentation of these prosthetic limbs. The initiative was made possible through contributions from the Navy’s Welfare Directorate and Naval Social Responsibility Fund.
