Navy renders assistance to conduct St. Anthony's Church festival in Palaitivu
The annual festival of St. Anthony's Church on the Palaitivu Island, Jaffna was successfully held on 01st and 02nd March 2024. The Sri Lanka Navy provided facilities for conduct of the event and convenience of the devotees.
Following the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the Navy supervised the arrangement of sea transportation for religious dignitaries who attended this event. In addition, the Navy provided sanitary, medical facilities, drinking water and other infrastructure as well as lifesaving teams for the safety of the devotees. The Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda oversaw these arrangements which were made possible by the Navy, for the convenience of devotees.
The main mass of the church festival was conducted by the Vicar General of the Jaffna Diocese Very Rev. Fr. P Josephdas Jebarathnam. A group of Fathers and Nuns representing other areas also attended this year’s St. Anthony's Church festival.
Deputy Area Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera, a group of naval personnel of the Northern Naval Command, distinguished invitees and a large group of devotees were also present on this occasion.
