Indian Ocean Regional Information Sharing Standard Operation Procedure course concludes successfully

The Indian Ocean Regional Information Sharing (IORIS) Standard Operation Procedure course came to a successful end on 09th February 2024. Commenced on 05th of February, IORIS Standard Operation Procedure course was held at the Mandarin hotel, Colombo over 05 days. The certificate awarding was held under the patronage of Director General Operations of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Nishantha Peiris.

The IORIS platform serves as a vital tool for maritime domain awareness, facilitating the exchange of critical information related to maritime security threats, illegal activities and search and rescue operations.

The course was conducted by former Commander of the Navy, Admiral Piyal De Silva (Retd) and instructors of Crimario II. Three (03) officers from the Sri Lanka Navy, 02 officers from the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, 01 official from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, 03 officers from the Bangladesh Navy and 02 officers from the Maldivian National Defence Force along with an official from the Maldivian Transport and Civil Aviation Department attended this programme.

By equipping stakeholders with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively utilize the IORIS platform and SOP, the initiative aims to enhance maritime domain awareness, deter illicit activities and promote stability and prosperity in the region. In addition, emphasis was placed on fostering collaboration, trust and interoperability among participants, ensuring seamless coordination during maritime operations and emergencies. The successful completion of the capacity building training programme also marked a significant milestone in advancing regional cooperation and capacity building efforts in the Indian Ocean.
