Rear Admiral Chaminda Jayapala honoured in farewell salute

The Sri Lanka Navy today (24th January 2024) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Chaminda Jayapala who retired from his distinguished naval service which spanned over 32 years.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the Board of Management, extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Chaminda Jayapala was accorded a Guard of Honour in precision with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.

Rear Admiral Chaminda Jayapala joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 08th intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in 1990 and held a wide range of logistics appointments during his illustrious naval career. Among some of the key appointments he held; Area Victualing and Clothing Officer, Area Procurement Officer, Senior Staff Officer (Pension), Senior Staff Officer (Received & Distribution), Area Stores Officer and Area Victualing and Clothing Officer (West), Senior Course Coordinator Long Logistics Management Course, Captain Logistics Department (East), Director (Logistics), Captain Logistics Department (North Central), Deputy Director Naval (Pay), Commodore Superintendent Logistics (North), Director Naval Logistics, Acting Director General (Budget and Finance) and Director General (Budget and Finance) were prominent.
