Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne honoured in send-off salute

Relinquishing duties to which he was committed over 36 years, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne retired from naval service today (16th January 2024).

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, flanked by the Navy’s Board of Management, extended warm wishes to the retiring naval officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions before fellow naval officers making their formal farewells to the outgoing senior officer appreciative of his service. Subsequently, he was sent off in a motorcade through the portals of Navy Headquarters, amidst cheers.

Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 16th intake in 1987. Throughout his distinguished career, the senior officer has occupied various commanding roles at both establishments and ships. Among some of the other key appointments he held Senior Staff Officer Operations, Deputy Director Naval Administration, Acting Director Naval Administration, Captain Sea Training, Commodore Sea Training, Head of Naval Research Wing, Director Naval Training, Naval Officer in Charge (Trincomalee South), Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area, Director Naval Welfare, Acting Director General Services, Director General Training, Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Commander Eastern Naval Area, Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff of the Navy stood prominent.
