Navy bids adieu to Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara
The Sri Lanka Navy today (15th January 2024) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara who relinquished his duties to which he was committed over the past 35 years in the Sri Lanka Navy.
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, along with the Navy’s Board of Management, extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.
Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 06th Intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in 1988 and held a range of prominent command appointments of establishments and ships during his illustrious career. Among some of the other key appointments he held, Training Captain of Naval and Maritime Academy, Aide and Personal Secretary of the Commander of the Navy, Head of Training Team Defence Services Command & Staff College Sapugaskanda, Naval Assistant to the Commander of the Navy, Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy, Director General Training, Commander Western Naval Area, Commandant Volunteer Naval Force and Commander Eastern Naval Area were prominent.
Starting from 21st August 2023, Rear Admiral Dhammika Kumara has assumed the duties of the appointment of Vice Chancellor at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and will continue to serve in that position.
