26 Navy officers successfully complete Course No 17 of Defence Services Command and Staff College
The graduation ceremony of Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Sapugaskanda Course No 17 was held at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre on 14th December 2023. The event, graced by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Chief Guest, was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.
The Course No 17 of DSCSC commenced on 04th January 2023. A total of 148 officers comprising of 72 officers from the Sri Lanka Army, 26 officers from the Sri Lanka Navy, 24 officers from the Sri Lanka Air Force, 01 officer from the Sri Lanka Police Department as well as 13 Army, 08 Navy and 04 Air Force officers representing Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, United States and Zambia completed this year’s course.
Upon successful completion of the course of study, 26 officers of the Sri Lanka Navy were conferred the ‘psc’ (Passed Staff College) qualification. Stealing the spotlight at the graduation ceremony, Lieutenant Commander JMHI Bandara clinched victory on all fronts, securing the Commandant’s Honours Award, Golden Pen Award, and Golden Owl Award in a triumphant sweep of the staff course accolades for the Navy.
Senior Adviser to the President on National Security and Chief of the Presidential Staff, Mr Sagala Ratnayaka, Defence Secretary, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, Vice Chancellor of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara, Commandant Defence Services Command and Staff College, Major General BKGML Rodrigo, academic and directing staff of DSCSC and officers of Course No 17 were also present on this occasion.
