ROR, Rigging, Semaphore and Flashing Competition comes to successful end
The Rules of the Road (ROR), Rigging, Semaphore and Flashing Competition, organized by the Naval Fleet Command, was held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium of Naval and Maritime Academy on 07th December 2023. The event which was organized with a view to honing the professionalism of naval personnel serving onboard SLN ships and craft was held with the graceful presence of the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne.
The recently conducted competition, as per the guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, was overseen by Rear Admiral Chandima Silva, the Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Fleet. The competition was held in three categories namely Major Vessels, Small Vessels and Fast Attack Craft.
ROR competition highlighted the intricate understanding of navigational rules, ensuring safe and efficient passage at sea. In ROR competition for Major Vessels, the first place was secured by Lieutenant YADSS Yapa of SLNS Vijayabahu and the second place was won by Lieutenant DES Jayakodi of SLNS Sindurala. Meanwhile, in the competition for Small Vessels, the first place was secured by Lieutenant VLI Cooray of L 821 and the second place was won by Lieutenant DDDC Weerasinghe of SLNS Ranadeera. In the completion among Fast Attack Craft, the first place was secured by Lieutenant LACM Yasarathne of P 4442 and the second place was won by Lieutenant Madushan of P430. Meanwhile, Lieutenant LACM Yasarathne was also adjudged the Best Officer in ROR.
In Semaphore and Flashing competition for Major Vessels, the first place was secured by SLNS Sayurala and the second place was won by SLNS Shakthi. Meanwhile in the competition for Small Vessels, the first place was secured by SLNS Wickrama II and the second place was won by SLNS Hansaya. In the completion among Fast Attack Craft, the first place was secured by P 4444/ P 465 and the second place was won by P 480/ P 481. Meanwhile, Leading Communicator IKP Wijerathne and Comminicator I IMSM Ilangakoon were the members of the best team in Semaphore and Flashing.
In Rigging competition for Major Vessels, the first place was secured by SLNS Samudura and the second place was won by SLNS Gajabahu. Meanwhile in the competition for Small Vessels, the first place was secured by SLNS Mihikatha and the second place was won by L 821. In the completion among Fast Attack Craft, the first place was secured by P 435 and the second place was won by P491. Meanwhile, Leading Seaman M Jayalath of SLNS Mihikatha was adjudged the Best Rigger.
Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva, officers from the Navy Headquarters, Naval Commands as well as ships and craft and sailors were present on this occasion.
