Navy receives Islamic blessings on 73rd Anniversary
A unique Islamic prayer session took place today (02nd December 2023) at the Jummah Mosque on Chatham Street. The purpose was to seek blessings for the upcoming 73rd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, falling on 09th December.
On the sidelines of anniversary celebrations, the Navy has organized a series of multi-religious programmes to invoke blessings on its 73rd Anniversary. Accordingly, the Kanchuka Puja at Ruwanwelisaya and Flag Blessing ceremony at sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi were conducted on 16th and 17th November. Meanwhile, the Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service was held at All Saints' Church – Borella on 21st November. Further, the All-night Pirith Chanting and Alms Giving for the members of Ven. Maha Sangha were held on 24th and 25th November in the Welisara Naval Complex. In addition, a special Puja of Hindu tradition was conducted on 01st December at the Sri Ponnambalawaneswarar Kovil in Colombo.
The Islamic prayer session was conducted by Mawlawi Asheikh Amhar and the session was presided over by Director General Civil Engineering, Rear Admiral Hiran Balasooriya. During these Islamic religious rituals merits were transferred on fallen naval war veterans and blessings were invoked on disabled naval war heroes, naval personnel both serving and retired, their family members and the Navy for its anniversary.
Director Naval Training, Commodore Buddhika Jayaweera, Acting Director Naval Foreign Procurement, Captain Prashan Marso, Commanding Officer SLNS Parakrama, Captain Charaka Herath, Deputy Director Sports, Captain Anton Fernando and a group of naval personnel from the Navy Headquarters and Western Naval Command were present at this event.
