Rear Admiral Jalaj Ponnamperuma retires from naval service
The Sri Lanka Navy today (23rd November 2023) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Jalaj Ponnamperuma who relinquished his naval duties to which he was committed over the past 35 years.
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, along with the Navy Board of Management, expressed best wishes to the retiring officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, the senior officer was accorded a Guard of Honour in compliance with naval traditions. Next, fellow officers bade adieu to Rear Admiral Jalaj Ponnamperuma who took leave from the Navy Headquarters amidst the cheers of senior and junior sailors.
Rear Admiral Jalaj Ponnamperuma joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 02nd intake of Naval Infantry in 1988. During his illustrious career, the senior officer has held a number of command appointments at various naval establishments. Aside from that, Senior Staff Officer (Naval Infantry), Command Land Operations Officer (North), Command Land Operations Officer (West), Command Land Operations Officer (Southeast), Command Public Relations Officer (North), Naval Officer in Charge (Trincomalee North), Naval Officer in Charge (Islands), Command Land Operations Officer (South), Command Public Relations Officer (South), Deputy Director Naval Land Operations, Director Naval Infantry and Commandant Naval Infantry are some of the key appointments he has held.
