Commander of the Navy addresses officers of course no. 02 at National Defence College

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera conducted a guest lecture for the officers of course no. 02 at National Defence College (NDC) Sri Lanka on 27th October 2023, at the invitation of the Commandant NDC, Major General Sujeewa Senarath.

The participants of course no. 02 from the Tri-Services and Police attentively listened to a compelling speech by the Navy Commander on the topic of ‘Sri Lanka Navy’s Maritime Strategy to Underpin National Security’

In a thought-provoking address to officers at the National Defence College, the Commander of the Navy explored into the rich tapestry of maritime history. He elucidated the fascinating evolution of the world's maritime history, tracing the roots of ancient trade routes that crisscrossed the oceans. The Navy Chief also highlighted how nations throughout history had harnessed maritime power as a key component of their influence on the global stage.

He underscored the crucial significance of maritime strategy, particularly in the Indian Ocean region in today’s context. In addition, he explained that Sri Lanka, with its storied maritime history, served as a compelling case study. His address provided valuable insights into the historical foundations and contemporary relevance of maritime power and strategy, leaving the student officers with much to contemplate.

Signifying the importance of the occasion, mementos were also exchanged between Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and Major General Sujeewa Senarath.
