Rear Admiral Asanga Ranasuriya retires from naval service
Upon completion of his distinguished career spanning over thirty-five (35) years, Rear Admiral Asanga Ranasuriya retired from the naval service today (20th October 2023).
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the Board of Management extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Asanga Ranasuriya was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.
Rear Admiral Asanga Ranasuriya joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1989 as an Officer Cadet of the 07th intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. During his illustrious career, the senior officer has held command appointments of a number of ships and establishments. Apart from that, Commandant of SLNS Shiksha, Acting Naval Officer in Charge (Poonewa), Deputy Director Naval Training, Deputy Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Deputy Area Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Director Naval Internal Audit and Director General Naval & Air Operations at OCDS were some of the other key appointments he held during his distinguished career.
