Navy-built 983rd RO plant vested in public at Thuparamaya, Anuradhapura

The 983rd Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant built as part of the Naval Social Responsibility Project was declared open for community use at Thuparamaya in Anuradhapura. The opening was held under the patronage of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera today (18th October 2023).

Sri Lanka Navy is passionately into this magnanimous project of installing RO plants, under the able guidance of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera. Thus, the Navy enabled its industrial and technical expertise for this community-oriented development task at Thuparamaya which was backed by the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and donors with funds.

The newly established Reverse Osmosis plant will be able to provide around 15000 liters of safe drinking water per day to the devotees visiting Thuparamaya, one of the earliest documented Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka.

On the sidelines of this event, Commander of the Navy paid his obeisance to the Atamasthana Adhipathi and Chief Sanghanayaka of Nuwara Kalaviya, most Venerable Pallegama Hemarathana Nayaka Thera, Chief Incumbent of Ruwanweli Seya, most Venerable Ithala-Watunu Wawe Gnanathilake Thera, and Chief Incumbent of Thuparamaya, Venerable Kahalle Ganinanda Thera. He also offered Pirikara to the Nayaka Theras and received their blessings.

The opening was held amidst the blessings invoked by members of Venerable Maha Sanga including the Atamasthana Adhipathi and Chief Sanghanayaka of Nuwara Kalaviya, most Venerable Pallegama Hemarathana Nayaka Thera and Chief Incumbent of Thuparamaya, Venerable Kahalle Ganinanda Thera. The occasion was also attended by officers and sailors from the Navy Headquarters and North Central Naval Command as well as a group of devotees.
