Wave N’ Lake Navy Hall declared open in Welisara

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera declared open the Wave N’ Lake Navy Hall on an auspicious note in the Welisara Naval Complex on 07th October 2023. The occasion was also attended by the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Mala Lamahewa. Following the inauguration of this new facility, it is now ready and available for full-scale operations. For various ceremonial occasions of the Sri Lanka Navy and for the welfare of all Navy personnel, the construction was completed utilizing the financial contribution of the naval personnel as well as the technical contribution of the Navy.

The Navy prioritizes the well-being of its dedicated personnel, including those members who are currently serving, their families, as well as retired personnel. In this context, the Navy began constructing a multifunctional hall on April 25, 2021, with the help of generous contributions and workforce from naval personnel, led by the then Commander of the Navy, Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

After three years of effort, the Navy has successfully finalized the construction of a spacious, versatile facility set amidst the picturesque surroundings of Kajugahakumbura Lake within the Welisara Naval Complex with ample parking facilities. This multifunctional hall boasts a versatile stage for performances, restaurant and state-of-the-art accommodation. With its modern amenities, this venue will effortlessly accommodate a diverse range of gatherings, including seminars, conferences, workshops, lectures, friendly gatherings, Navy Day celebrations, and Navy-organized ceremonies, all presented with a sense of pride and distinction. Additionally, this provides an affordable opportunity to host private gatherings, such as weddings, and other events, for naval personnel and their families. Moreover, these services are also available for a wide range of private occasions, including weddings hosted by external parties as well.

Addressing the gathering, Commander of the Navy said that Wave N' Lake Navy Hall, built for the expansion of the welfare of naval personnel and retired naval personnel, to make available the necessary infrastructure for various occasions of the Navy, will bring many benefits to the Navy and all naval personnel in the future. The Navy Commander emphasized that the project was funded entirely by contributions from naval personnel, both financially and technically. Additionally, a portion of the future proceeds generated by this event hall, managed under the Malima Hospitality Services, will be allocated to the Navy Welfare. He added that it would expand the welfare of naval personnel and retired naval personnel and families of naval veterans. Also, the Navy Commander added that this project will help the Navy to save a large amount of money that is spent in getting event hall facilities and services from external parties.

The opening of the Wave N’ Lake Navy Hall was made more colourful by entertaining events presented by the Navy Band and Cultural Troupe.

The occasion was also attended by former Navy Commanders including, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne, senior officers from the Navy Board of Management, officers from the Retired Naval Officers Association, officers from the Navy Headquarters, officers and sailors representing all Naval Commands, and distinguished guests were also present on this occasion.
