Presidential Task Force to combat the use of poisonous and dangerous drugs convenes at Navy Headquarters
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera who is also the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force to combat the use of poisonous and dangerous drugs chaired a special meeting at the Navy Headquarters in Colombo on 01st September 2023.
The special meeting was attended by 21 stakeholders involved in the Task Force and they engaged in extensive deliberations regarding the measures the Task Force should implement to deter the use of poisonous and dangerous drugs in the country.
In addition, the Deputy Director General (Non Communicable Disease) of Ministry of Health, Dr. SC Wickramasinghe and Director Investigation Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Mr MGN Jayakody gave presentations highlighting the actions to be taken by their respective authorities to prevent the use of poisonous and dangerous drugs. Moreover, Aide and Personal Secretary to the Commander of the Navy, Commander Priyadarshana Udakumbura also presented views related to women empowerment and its benefits to the future actions of the Task Force.
The formation of this Presidential Task Force aims to swiftly execute vital initiatives aimed at curbing the utilization of poisonous and dangerous drugs within the nation, with a particular focus on thwarting their proliferation among school-age children. This endeavour involves the collaboration of all parties committed to eradicating drug-related issues within the country.
