Navy expands infrastructure at Chettipulam Primary School in Kayts

In a significant step towards enhancing education and community development, the Navy embarked on a project to expand the infrastructure of Chettipulam Tamil Primary School in Kayts. The magnanimous project was sponsored by the Royal College Old Boys’ East Coast Foundation in USA and Dr. JIT Rajiyah. The renovated school buildings and other infrastructure were declared open by Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Aruna Tennekoon on 14th August 2023.

Following the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the Sri Lanka Navy made available its men and industrial expertise for the renovation and construction work, as part of the Naval Social Responsibility project. Accordingly, the Northern Naval Command commenced renovation of a classroom building on 10th July 2023 and the project was carried out under the supervision of Commander Northern Naval Area. The expeditiously renovated classroom building and other improved infrastructure of the school were vested with the school children on 14th August, in a ceremony graced by Commander Northern Naval Area.

The project has been met with appreciation from the local community and teaching staff alike. Mrs Pushpanesa Vishvanadan the school's principal, praised the Navy's efforts, saying that this initiative would undoubtedly provide the students with a better learning environment, allowing them to unlock their potential and achieve greater academic success. She also expressed her profound gratitude to the Commander of the Navy and naval personnel for their commitment to provide better facilities for the students and contribute to the overall educational landscape in the region.

On the sidelines of this event, Commander Northern Naval Area distributed school supplies among the students of the school. In addition, the children were treated with delicious lunch provided by the Navy.

Naval Officer in Charge (Island), Commodore Sisira Dissanayake, Commanding Officer SLNS Kanchadewa, Captain Roland Rantenna, senior and junior officers from the Northern Naval Command, teaching staff of Chettipulam Tamil Primary School, school children and a group of parents were also present on this occasion.
