Rear Admiral Prasad Kariyapperuma retires from naval service
Upon completion of his distinguished career spanning over thirty five (35) years, Rear Admiral Prasad Kariyapperuma retired from the naval service today (10th August 2023).
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the Board of Management extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Prasad Kariyapperuma was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.
Rear Admiral Prasad Kariyapperuma joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1988 as an Officer Cadet of the 06th intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. During his illustrious career, the senior officer has held Command appointments of a number of ships and establishments. Apart from that, Training Captain (SLNS Nipuna), Acting Director Naval Inspectorate, Acting Naval Officer in Charge (Welisara), Command Operations Officer (East), Head of Naval Research Wing, Naval Officer in Charge (Trincomalee-South), Deputy Area Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Director Naval Administration, Director General Administration, Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Commander North Central Naval Area and Chief Hydrographer of the Navy and Joint Chief Hydrographer to the Government of Sri Lanka were some of the other key appointments he held during his distinguished career.
