Commander of the Navy visits Trincomalee-South in Eastern Naval Command
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera embarked on an official visit to Trincomalee-South in the Eastern Naval Command on 01st July 2023. During this visit, he focused on operational and welfare concerns of the Navy and Coast Guard in the area and also addressed a cross section of officers and sailors on Navy's preparedness for operations and as how to prudently overcome challenges.
Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera was accompanied by Commander Eastern Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara, Heads of Departments and Naval Officer in Charge Trincomalee-South, Commodore Asanga Rathugamage during this visit. Following a presentation made by officers at SLNS Kashyapa, Commander of the Navy addressed a cross section of officers and sailors who were from naval establishments and detachments belonging to Trincomalee-South.
In his addressing, Commander of the Navy underlined that things were slowly but surely returning to a state of normalcy and encouraged naval personnel to continue their dedication to their duties and to not be swayed by any other ulterior motives. Whilst reminding of a range of initiatives that have been introduced for the welfare of naval personnel, he emphasized that the current economic situation requires everyone to be mindful of their spending and to prioritize their needs over wants. Adding further, he stated that naval personnel attempting to leave the Navy due to misinformation spread by various parties is not permissible.
In addition, the Navy Chief emphasized the importance of leadership and building a character, stressing that every member of the Navy must embody these traits. Moreover, he also urged naval personnel to do away with any illegal acts that may tarnish the Navy's reputation. Another key point what the Commander of the Navy emphasized was the importance of adhering to the unique divisional system that is a hallmark of the Navy. Reminding of the responsibility on the shoulders of naval personnel in carrying out the entrusted duty, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera said that the Navy anticipated the officers and sailors would be fully dedicated to carrying out their duties with utmost vigor and responsibility in any challenging situation.
During this visit, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera also took time off to visit SLNS Kashyapa, SLNS Lankapatuna, Naval Detachment Batticaloa, and Valaichchenai Fishing Monitoring Point of Sri Lanka Coast Guard in Trincomalee-South and gave necessary instruction for the execution of operational matters more efficiently and effectively.
