Sixty seven (67) newly enlisted officers receive letters of appointment from Commander of the Navy

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera handed over letters of appointment to 35 Officer Cadets of the 65th intake, 29 Direct Entry officers and 03 Officer Cadets who qualified for university admission through University Grants Commission (UGC). The ceremony in this regard was held at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium in the Navy Headquarters today (28th June 2023).

The newly enrolled 35 Officer Cadets belong to the Executive, Engineering, Supply, Electrical and Electronic and Naval Infantry branches of the Regular Naval Force. Meanwhile, the enlisted 29 Direct Entry officers and lady officers will be serving in the Volunteer Naval Force and 03 Cadet Officers who qualified for university admission through UGC will be absorbed into Medical, Dental and Engineering branches on successful completion of their degree programmes.

During the enlistment ceremony, the Commander of the Navy took the opportunity to congratulate the newly enlisted officers, admitting that they were embarking on a new chapter in their lives. Adding further, Commander of the Navy expressed that the parents had made significant sacrifices in order to ensure their children received a quality education and stated that joining the Navy was among the most excellent choices they had ever made. Also, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera highlighted that serving in the Navy was not merely a job but a noble service to the country. He put emphasis on the level of commitment these newly enlisted individuals require to fulfill this noble duty, fostering a sense of national pride. Commander of the Navy further reminded them about local and foreign training opportunities available, for officers to hone their professionalism. He assured them that the Navy would be an ideal place for them to shaping their professionalism, character, and leadership abilities, to become effective leaders in the future. In closing, the Commander of the Navy expressed his gratitude to the proud parents for giving their consent to the children to join the Navy and urged them to provide unwavering support to their children in pursuing a successful naval career.

The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne, Director Generals, a group of senior officers from the Navy Headquarters and parents of newly enlisted officers were also present on this occasion.
