Rear Admiral Janaka Nissanka honoured in farewell salute

The Sri Lanka Navy today (21st June 2023) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Janaka Nissanka who retired from his distinguished naval service which spanned over 33 years.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the Board of Management extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Janaka Nissanka was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.

Rear Admiral Janaka Nissanka joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 19th intake in 1989 and has held Command appointments of a number of ships and establishments. Command Operations Department (South), Senior Staff Security Officer (East), Acting Director Naval Intelligence, Naval Officer in Charge (Island) in Northern Naval Command, Naval Officer in Charge (Poonewa), Commandant and Commanding Officer SLNS Shiksha, Commodore Sea Training, Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area and Port Facility Security Officer (Trincomalee), Deputy Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Director General Administration and Commander North Central Naval Area were some of the key appointments he held during his illustrious career.
