Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee recognized for environmentally conscious operations
The Presidential Environment Awards 2021- 2022 was held on 28th April 2023 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo, under the patronage of the President Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe. The ceremony saw the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee winning the golden award for Navy’s environmentally conscious operations. The Commander Eastern Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara received the golden award from the President on this occasion.
Under the able guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, all Naval Commands conduct multi-faceted approaches that include a range of initiatives to minimize the impact on the environment.
It is worth noting that the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee previously won the Presidential Environment Award in 2016 and 2019, demonstrating its consistent commitment to environmental sustainability.
At the ceremony, organized by the Central Environmental Authority, 90 individuals received awards under the main sectors of industries, businesses and projects, institutions, media, and society.
