‘Nekathata Palayak’ tree planting ritual of Sinhala and Tamil New Year performed at Navy Headquarters
In line with the Sinhala and Tamil New Year auspicious ritual ‘Nekathata Palayak’, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera planted a mango sapling in the Navy Headquarters premises today (20th April 2023) at 06.38 a.m. The programme was launched island wide by the Ministry of Agriculture as part of the national tree planting project.
The tree planting ritual had been a key feature of ‘Nekath Seettuwa’, the table of auspicious times for this year’s Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Chief of Staff of the Navy Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne, Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations Rear Admiral Pradeep Rathnayake, Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva and a group of naval personnel were also present at the tree planting ritual at the Navy Headquarters.
Meanwhile, a similar programme was held in the Southeastern Naval Command under the patronage of Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda.
