Newly constructed jetty declared open in Mannar
Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Prasad Kariyapperuma declared open a newly constructed jetty at the Naval Detachment Vedithalativu in Mannar today (26th February 2023). The new facility was put up with a view to further expand operational efficiency of the Navy.
The facility has been a long-felt need of the Navy as there was no secure berthing facility for small craft patrolling in the sea area of Vedithalativu, preventing illegal activities. The construction of this jetty commenced in November 2022 and the remaining work of it was expeditiously carried out at the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and under the supervision of Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Prasad Kariyapperuma.
The new facility which was made possible utilizing the able manpower and industrial expertise of the Navy and it will be a great convenience to small craft patrolling in the sea area of Vedithalativu. On the other hand, it would further expand operational efficiency of the Navy as it would pave the way to deploy naval personnel and assets at will.
Senior officers of the North Central Naval Command and a group of naval personnel of SLNS Buwaneka were also present on this occasion.
