Navy restores coastal ecosystems in Kalu Ganga estuary through mangrove planting
As part of the Mangrove Conservation Project of the Sri Lanka Navy, a mangrove planting drive was conducted in the Kalu Ganga estuary on 19th February 2023.
Indulging its passion for mangrove planting, the Navy conducts a Mangrove Conservation Project under the able guidance of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera. As part of this timely project, the 200 mangrove saplings were planted in areas subject to coastal erosion along the Kalu Ganga estuary. The programme was carried out under the supervision of Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva.
Naval personnel attached to the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) Rear Training Area Kalutara and members of ‘Clean Ocean Force’ actively participated in this mangrove planting programme.
