Islamic prayers invoke blessings on 72nd Anniversary of Navy

A special Islamic prayer session was held at the Jummah Mosque, Chatham Street today (02nd December 2022) to invoke blessings on the forthcoming 72nd anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, falling on 09th December 2022.

On the sidelines of anniversary celebrations, the Navy has organized a series of multi-religious programmes to invoke blessings on its 72nd Anniversary. Accordingly, the Kanchuka Puja at Ruwanwelisaya and Flag Blessing ceremony at sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi were conducted on 09th and 10th November. Meanwhile, the Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service was held at St. Lucia’s Cathedral in Kotahena on 18th November and the all-night Pirith Chanting and Alms Giving for the members of Ven. Maha Sangha were held on 25th and 26th November in the Welisara Naval Complex. In the same vein, a special Puja of Hindu tradition was organized yesterday (01st December) to invoke the blessings on the forthcoming anniversary.

The Islamic prayer session was conducted by Mawlawi Amhar Hakam Deen and the session was presided by Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara. During these Islamic religious rituals merits were transferred on fallen naval war veterans and blessings were invoked on disabled naval war heroes, naval personnel both serving and retired, their family members and the Navy for its anniversary.

Director General Services, Rear Admiral Nevil Ubayasiri, Director General Naval & Air Operations at the Office of Chief of Defence Staff, Rear Admiral Asanga Ranasooriya, Director Marine, Commodore Sanath Pitigala, Commanding Officer SLNS Parakrama, Captain Kelum Marambage and a group of naval personnel from the Navy Headquarters and Western Naval Command were present at this event.
