Hindu Puja invokes blessings on Navy’s 72nd Anniversary

A special Puja of Hindu tradition invoked the blessings on the forthcoming 72nd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy at the Sri Ponnambalawaneswarar Kovil, Colombo today (01st December 2022).

The religious segment which is part of the anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Navy commenced with the Kanchuka Puja at Ruwanwelisaya and Flag Blessing ceremony at sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi on 09th and 10th November. Meanwhile, the Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service was held at St. Lucia’s Cathedral in Kotahena on 18th November. Further, the all-night Pirith Chanting and Alms Giving for the members of Ven. Maha Sangha were held on 25th and 26th November in the Welisara Naval Complex.

The Hindu Puja was conducted by the Priest Naajendran Sharma Surendran and the event was presided by the Chief of Staff of the Navy Rear Admiral Priynatha Perera. During the special ceremony of Hindu religious rites and rituals merits were transferred on fallen naval war veterans and blessings were invoked on serving and retired naval personnel as well as their family members.

Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara, Commandant Naval Infantry Rear Admiral Jalaj Ponnamperuma, Director Naval Pay and Pension, Commodore Rohan Fernando, Commanding Officer SLNS Rangalla, Captain Saliya Paranagama and a group of naval personnel from the Navy headquarters and Western naval Command were present on this occasion.
