Navy receives blessings at Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service in view of its 72nd Anniversary
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne along with the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Chandima Ulugetenne attended the Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service at St. Lucia’s Cathedral in Kotahena on18th November 2022. The event was organized by the Navy Christian Council in line with a series of multi religious events organized to invoke blessings on the 72nd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy (09th December).
The Navy has organized a series of religious programmes to invoke blessings on the 72nd Anniversary. Accordingly, The Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service held at St. Lucia’s Cathedral was conducted by Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo, Rt. Rev. Dr. Anton Jayakody and clergies from Church of Ceylon, Baptist and Methodist churches.
During the event, the Naval Ensign, Command Flags, ships and establishments were blessed and merits were transferred on fallen naval war veterans. In addition, blessings were invoked on both serving and retired naval personnel, disabled members as well as their family members.
Former Commanders of the Navy Admiral Basil Gunasekara, Admiral Cecil Tissera, Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Admiral Jayantha Perera and retired senior officers, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne, Director Generals of the Navy, Area Commanders, executive committee members of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, President Navy Christian Council Commodore Prashantha Anthony and officers of Navy Christian Council, flag-rank officers and a group of officers and sailors attached to the Navy Headquarters and Western Naval Command were present on this occasion.
