Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake retires from naval service amid best wishes
Sri Lanka Navy today (12th October 2022) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake who relinquished naval duties to which he was committed over the past 35 years.
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne along with the Board of Management extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Ekanayake was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off amidst the cheers of naval personnel.
Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 16th intake in 1987. The senior officer has held Command appointments of a number of ships, craft and establishments during his illustrious career. Deputy Director Naval Operations & Senior Air Defence Coordinator, Training Captain Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Sea Training, Tri Forces Coordinating Officer for Disaster Management Centre, Deputy Area Commander Southeastern Naval Command, Director Naval Inspectorate, Director Naval Policy and Plan, 06th Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy are some of the other key appointments he has held.
