New academic building of SLNS Shiksha declared open
The three-storeyed academic building at SLNS Shiksha was declared open by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (07th October 2022). The Navy has been into develop infrastructure at its recruit training establishments, with a view to empowering naval personnel to be at the highest possible levels of proficiency in all respects.
SLNS Shiksha is one of the main training establishments of the Sri Lanka Navy, dedicated to conduct training for naval recruits and advanced courses for sailors. The training establishment annually bestows about 2000 recruits to the Navy for national duty, on successful completion of their basic training. In order to further expand facilities at this training establishment, construction work of a three-storeyed academic building commenced in 2015 and construction of its second storey got underway in 2018.
Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne the remaining work of the academic building was expedited, with the industrial expertise and engineering excellence of the Sri Lanka Navy. Accordingly, the new facility will pave the way to carry out training activities of SLNS Shiksha in an effective manner hereafter.
Marking this occasion Commander of the Navy also planted a sapling at the premises of SLNS Shiksha and he also inspected the newly built badminton court at the training establishment.
Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Pradeep Rathnayake, Commandant and Commanding Officer of SLNS Shiksha, Captain Aruna Weerasinge and a group of senior officers from the North Central Naval Command and SLNS Shiksha were present on this occasion.
