Navy expands infrastructure at Morayaya Maha Vidyalaya in Hambantota
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne declared open navy-developed infrastructure at Morayaya Maha Vidyalaya in Hambantota today (05th October 2022).
The project was carried out as a Naval Social Responsibility initiative, set in motion to improve facilities at certain resource-poor schools across the island, following the directives of Commander of the Navy. The construction work began on 29th July 2022 with manpower and funds made available by Sri Lanka Navy and the project was supervised by Commander Southern Naval Area. As part of the project, the Navy refurbished 03 existing class rooms and put up 02 new class rooms in adjacent.
Upon his arrival, the Commander of the Navy was warmly received by the Principal, teaching staff and students of Morayaya Maha Vidyalaya. Commenting his views on this special occasion, the Principals of the school, Mr Chinthana Geepathi highly appreciated the Navy’s effort in creating a better teaching-learning environment for the students and was particularly thankful to Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and the entire Navy, on behalf of his staff and school children.
Meanwhile, Commander of the Navy handed over books for the school library and sports equipment for school children as well. He also expressed his gratitude to the naval personnel involved in construction work, for making those facilities available in short period of time.
Director General Civil Engineering, Rear Admiral Ravindra Medagoda, Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Harindra Ekanayake, , officers from the Southern Naval Command, Zonal Education Director Walasmulla Mr. CU Weerasekara, the Principal, staff members and students of Morayaya Maha Vidyalaya and parents of the children were present on this occasion.
