Recently Graduated Navy Officers of Inaugural Course of National Defence College, Sri Lanka met the Commander of the Navy, prior to take up their New Appointments
The Navy officers who successfully completed the National Security and Strategic Studies Course No. 1 of National Defence College, Sri Lanka, met Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (23rd September 2022). The ceremonial graduation was held at the NDC premises on 14 th September 2022, on termination of the course.
As the highest seat of learning for senior officers, NDC of Sri Lanka was inaugurated on 11 November 2021 with a vision of developing future policy makers of the Tri-Services, Police and Public Service, on national security and strategic studies. Prior to the inauguration, these officers also underwent a tailor-made ‘Managing Defence in the Wider Security Context (MDWSC) course which was conducted virtually by a panel of lecturers of Defence Academy of the United Kingdom through the British High Commission of Sri Lanka.
Thereafter, the course of study unfolded as a multi-disciplinary learning platform tailored to suit the state objectives. A total of 8 study modules covered within 2 semesters and each module had been developed considering the formulation of strategic options for decision making with respect to current national, regional and global issues or scenarios that affect national security and policy.
During this interaction, Commander of the Navy extended his best wishes to the naval officers who successfully completed the National Security and Strategic Studies Course No. 1 at NDC. He also urged those officers to make use of their hard-earned knowledge to ensure national security perspectives and for the progress of the Sri Lanka Navy in the time to come.
During the graduation ceremony, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda was awarded as the most outstanding course participant of the Sri Lanka Navy by the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Ranil Wickremesinghe. The senior officer also received warm wishes of Commander of the Navy for the significant achievement.
