Navy conducts beach cleaning programme at Preethipura and Uswetakeiyawa beaches
Sri Lanka Navy conducted beach cleaning programmes at Preethipura beach in Wattala and Uswetakeiyawa coastline on 10th September 2022.
Going by the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, the Sri Lanka Navy often contributes to beach cleaning efforts, with a view to minimize plastic and polythene waste entering the ocean and raise awareness about the importance of such initiatives.
During this timely effort, carried out under the supervision of Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara and initiatives of SLNS Kelani helped restore the attractiveness of the beaches by removing plastic and other waste scattered along the coastline.
Together with naval personnel from the Western Naval Command the programmes were supported by a group of officials from Marine Environment Protections Authority, Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Department and Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha.
