SLNS Nipuna moulds 334 more recruits for naval service
Three hundred and thirty four (334) recruits of the 246th intake of Sri Lanka Navy’s Regular and Volunteer Forces passed out in Boossa on 06th September 2022, on successful completion of their basic training. The fascinating Passing out Parade (POP) was held at the main parade ground of SLNS Nipuna, keeping with time-honoured naval tradition.
The dignified event was graced by the Naval Assistant to Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sujeewa Senavirathne as the Chief Guest. The event saw the recruits who remained outstanding throughout their basic training period, receiving awards in recognition of their performances, from the Chief Guest of the evening.
Being adjudged the Best Recruit of 246th intake, Recruit RPN Madushanka won the award for his achievement. The award for the Highest Aggregate in Overall Subjects was won by Recruit RPMM Rathnayake. Meanwhile the awards for Best Marksman and Best Sportsman were won by Recruit KKRDS Wijerathna and Recruit IC Madushan respectively. Taking into account its overall performances, ‘Suranimila’ Division was selected as the Best Division of the 246th intake.
Addressing the gathering, Rear Admiral Sujeewa Senavirathne at the outset expressed his best wishes to the newly passed out recruits for successful completion of their basic training. Adding more, he said that Navy has been playing a major role for nation building efforts and curbing drug smuggling, as the First Line of Defence of the nation. Also, the Chief Guest urged young blooded naval personnel to preserve the noble virtues such as humanity and reconciliation and dedicate themselves to fulfill the duties and tasks of the Navy in their naval career.
The colourful spectacle also featured a vibrant drill display presented by the newly passed out recruits and entertaining performances of the Navy Band and Cultural Troupe.
Members of Ven. Maha Sangha, Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Harindra Ekanayake, senior officers from the Navy Headquarters and Southern Naval Command, Commandant and Commanding Officer SLNS Nipuna, Captain Jayanath De Silva, officers and sailors of SLNS Nipuna, as well as parents of newly passed out recruits were present on this occasion.
