Five - day workshop on Comprehensive Approaches to Building Maritime Domain Awareness capabilities commences at Light House Galley
A five - day workshop on Comprehensive Approaches to Building Maritime Domain Awareness capabilities in Sri Lanka commenced at the Light House Galley, Colombo on 05th September 2022. The event, arranged by the Institute for Security Governance (ISG), got off the ground with the coordination of the United States Embassy in Sri Lanka.
Purpose of this approaches to Building Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) Capabilities training is designed to assist those individuals and organizations responsible for the development, management, operation, and oversight of the collection, fusion, analysis, production and dissemination of time-sensitive, actionable, maritime intelligence for operational forces, decision makers at all levels, and partner fusion centers.
The workshop is being participated by 29 officers from the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Attorney General’s Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Merchant Shipping Secretariat and Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
The inauguration of the workshop was attended by Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy, Mr. Douglas E Sonnek, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera, Director Naval Operations, Commodore Nishantha Peiris, Defence Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, Lieutenant Colonel Anthony C. Nelson and delegates from the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, training team from ISG as well as officials from Sri Lanka’s defence and government institutes.
