Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy
Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake was appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy effective from 09th July 2022. Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne handed over the letter of appointment to the newly appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and expressed his best wishes to him at the Navy Headquarters today (12th July 2022).
Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake who is a proud product of Dharmaraja College, Kandy joined Sri Lanka Navy in 1987 as an Officer Cadet of 16th intake, in the Executive branch. On successful completion of his basic training from the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee, he was commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant in 1989. The senior officer has completed his Sub Lieutenant Technical Course in India in 1991 and has specialized Underwater Warfare at the Anti-submarine Warfare School INS Venduruthy in 1997. Progressing steadily in his career, the senior officer elevated to the rank of Rear Admiral on 17th July 2020.
Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake has commanded many ships, craft and shore establishments during his distinguished career. Among other appointments he held during the distinguished career, Deputy Director Naval Operations, Training Captain of Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Sea Training, Director Naval Inspectorate, Military Coordinator at Disaster Management Centre, Deputy Area Commander Southeastern Naval Area and Director Naval Policy and Planning were prominent.
Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake was appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy effective from 09th July 2022, while he is holding office as the 06th Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard.
