Rear Admiral Upul De Silva retires from naval service
Relinquishing duties to which he was committed for about 36 years, the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Upul De Silva retired from naval service today (09th July 2022).
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and the Board of Management extended warm wishes to the retiring naval officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Upul De Silva was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions and fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the outgoing senior officer appreciative of his service. Subsequently, he was sent off in a motorcade through the portals of Navy Headquarters amidst cheers.
Rear Admiral Upul De Silva joined Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 15th intake in 1986. During his illustrious career, the senior officer has held both command and staff appointments on fleet units and in establishments of the Sri Lanka Navy. Commandant SLNS Shiksha, Deputy Director Naval Training, Deputy Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Director Naval Inspectorate, Deputy Area Commander North Central Naval Area, Acting Director General Naval & Air Operations at OCDS, Director Naval Communication, Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area and Port Facility Security Officer of Trincomalee, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Director General Personnel, Commander Western Naval Area, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and Chief of Staff of the Navy were some of the other prominent appointments he held in his distinguished career.
