Winners of Navy Public Speaking Competition 2021 receive certificates and prizes
The winners of Navy Public Speaking Competition – 2021 received certificates and prizes during a ceremony presided by Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral YN Jayaratne at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium today (05th April 2022). The competition was organized by the Naval Research Wing in a bid to provide opportunities for naval personnel to inculcate the vital skill of public speaking.
The Navy Public Speaking Competition is held annually under two (02) categories for Senior and Junior Officers. On completion of the final round of the competition, Chief of Staff of the Navy presented cash prizes of Rs. 100,000.00, 75,000.00 and 50,000.00 respectively to the officers who excelled in the competition securing the first, second and third places.
Accordingly, the first place in the Senior Officers' category was won by Lieutenant Commander SPHD Senadeera. Meanwhile, the second place was secured by Lieutenant Commander EMMVR Wickramage and the third place went to Lieutenant Commander DYRR Weerasekara. Similarly, Lieutenant Commander JASW Jayasinghe and Lieutenant Commander JMHI Bandara won the fourth and fifth places respectively.
In the Junior Officers’ category, the first place was secured by Lieutenant UGA Lakshan. Further, Lieutenant MZZ Ahamed and Lieutenant Commander MTNK Fernando managed to secure the second and third places respectively. Besides, both Lieutenant DBAS Sirinanda and Lieutenant PYK Peramunaarachchi ranked fourth in the Junior Officers’ category.
Acting Director General Administration, Commodore Prasad Kariyapperuma, Director Naval Personnel, Commodore Ravindra Tissera, Mr. Niroshan Nadarajah and Ms Lankika Ariyasinghe from Toastmasters International were the panel of judges who evaluated the contestants in the final.
Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Upul De Silva, Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Prasanna Mahawithana, Director Generals, flag-rank officers, Head of Naval Research Wing, Captain LC Vithanage, a group of officers and sailors of the Navy Headquarters were also present on this occasion.
