Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias honoured in farewell salute

Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias relinquished his naval duties and bade farewell to his career today (09th March 2022) after over34 years of distinguished service.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne along with the Board of Management at the Navy Headquarters extended best wishes to the retiring officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Dias was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. Subsequently, the fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the outgoing senior officer in appreciation of his service rendered to the organization. Next, he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers.

Joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1987 as an Officer Cadet of the 16th intake, Rear Admiral Dias held Command appointments of a number of ships and establishments. Naval Armament Officer, Commanding Officer 04th Fast Attack Flotilla, Director Commercial Explosives Fire Arms and Ammunition Procurement Unit, Naval Officer in Charge – Trincomalee South, Deputy Area Commander Southern Naval Area and Commandant SLNS Nipuna, Port Facility Security Officer – Galle, Naval Officer in Charge – Welisara Naval Complex, Director Sports, Director Naval Operations, Director Maritime Special Forces, Director Naval Foreign Cooperation, Director Maritime Surveillance and International Ship and Port Facility Security Coordinator, Director Naval Weapon, Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area and Port Facility Security Officer – Trincomalee and Commander North Central and Eastern Naval Areas were some of the prominent appointments he held in his distinguished career in the Navy.
