Sacred Pinnacle of new Barana Chaithya in Northwestern Naval Command unveiled
The spiritual event to unveil the Sacred Pinnacle of newly built Barana Chaithya at SLNS Barana in the Northwestern Naval Command was held at the temple premises of the naval establishment on Unduwap full moon poya day (18th December 2021). At the invitation of Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularathne, this meritorious event was presided by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, with the attendance of President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne.
Commander of the Navy himself laid the cornerstone beginning the construction of this Chaithya on 10th October this year and the Sacred Relics were deposited in the Chaithya on 20th November by President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit. The construction work of the Chaithya was carried out by the Command Civil Engineering Department and this meritorious cause was sponsored by Sri Lanka Navy Buddhist Association, naval personnel of the Northwestern Naval Command and their family members.
The unveiling of the Sacred Pinnacle of newly built Chaithya was held amidst chanting of Jaya Pirith by the members of Maha Sangha, Deva Aradhana, Aloka Puja and beating of Hevisi.
The spiritual ceremony was held in compliance with COVID-19 protocols and it was attended by members of Maha Sangha, Director General Engineering, Rear Admiral Ravi Ranasinghe, Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Bandula Senarathna, Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularathne, Naval Assistant to Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sujeewa Senavirathna, executive committee members of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Deputy Area Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Commodore Mahendra Weerarathna and a limited group of naval personnel from the Navy Headquarters and Northwestern Naval Command.
