‘Compendium of Drug Seizures at Sea by Sri Lanka Navy’ presented to Commander of the Navy
The Navy compiled a collection of records titled ‘Compendium of Drug Seizures at Sea by Sri Lanka Navy’ with regard to large scale anti-drug operations conducted by Sri Lanka Navy. The first copy of the compendium was presented to Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne by Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Prasanna Mahawithana at the Navy Headquarters today (10th December 2021).
This compendium was compiled by the Operations Directorate of Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to coincide with the 71st anniversary of Sri Lanka Navy.
As the First Line of Defence of the island nation, Sri Lanka Navy is committed to ensuring the security of the waters around Sri Lanka and continues to launch successful operations to curb smuggling of drugs across the ocean. This compilation includes summary reports of large scale high sea drug raids carried out by Sri Lanka Navy from 2016 to September 2021. This will be distributed among local and foreign stakeholders who contribute to anti-drug operations, as a book of reference.
Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne, Deputy Director Naval Operations, Captain Sagara Udayanga were also present on this occasion.
