Navy assists conduct of lifesaving training programmes for youths in Jaffna
Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Life Saving in partnership with Northwind Projects conducted lifesaving training programmes at SLNS Elara in Karainagar for youths in Jaffna. On successful completion of the programmes 16 youths were awarded certificates in a ceremony held under the patronage of Governor of the Northern Province, Hon. Jeevan Theagarajah and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera on 05th December 2021.
The Northern Naval Command conducted the Life Bronze Medallion Course 2021/01 and 2021/02 as a Naval Social Responsibility initiative to encourage youth in the Jaffna area. The Lifesaving Training Courses commenced in October and November 2021 and were conducted over a period of three weeks at SLNS Elara, Karainagar.
These programmes were conducted by Navy’s Rapid Response Rescue & Relief Unit (4RU) and 16 youths who successfully completed the training courses received their certificates on 05th December.
The event was held adhering to COVID-19 protocols to prevent possibilities of the spread of the pandemic. Deputy Area Commander Northern Naval Area, Commodore Saman Perera, President Sri Lanka Life Saving, Treasurer National Association for Canoeing and Kayaking Sri Lanka, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Northern Province, Chairman Northwind Projects, Chairman Jaffna Fisheries Association and a limited group of persons were present on this occasion.
