Navy facilitates new Governor of Northern Province to visit island sector

Sri Lanka Navy facilitated the visit of the new Governor of the Northern Province, Hon. Jeevan Theagarajah who called at the island sector in the Jaffna District on 20th November 2021.

Hon. Governor of the Northern Province visited the islands of the North with a view to grasp numerous economic, social and health issues and measure up means to enhance administrative assistance for improving the quality of life of island communities. The Northern Naval Command facilitated the visit providing sea passage, enabling Hon. Governor to reach Eluvaitivu, Analathivu, Palaithivu, Kakaraithivu and Kachchathivu. He was also accompanied by Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera.

During the visit, Commander Northern Naval Area also briefed Hon. Governor about poaching by foreign fishing trawlers in Sri Lankan waters off the Delft and Kachchativu Islands through the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), efforts made by Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard to prevent the encroachment as well as the security status quo in the area.

In this visit, Hon. Governor very keenly assessed vast potentials in the islands to bring prosperity and development to the north in general. Divisional Secretaries, other state officials and senior officers of the Northern Naval Command and Sri Lanka Coast Guard were present on this occasion.
