Navy contributes planting of mangrove in Kilali Lagoon
As part of the Mangrove Conservation Project of the Sri Lanka Navy, a similar initiative to plant mangrove saplings in Kilali Lagoon, Jaffna was held under the auspices of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera on 03rd October 2021.
Signifying the initiative of planting 5000 mangrove saplings, carried out by the Northern Naval Command, aiming to prevent coastal erosion in the lagoons of the Jaffna Peninsula, the effort got off the ground in Kilali Lagoon by planting 25 mangrove saplings. The event was held adhering to COVID-19 protocols and it was also attended by Commanding Officer Naval Deployment Veththalakerni and a group of naval personnel.
