Facility-expanded Naval Sewing Centre opened at Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne declared open a facility-expanded Naval Sewing Centre at the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee today (30th September 2021).

The Navy runs Sewing Centers in the Northern, North Central, Western, Southern and Eastern Naval Commands to tailor all types of uniforms required for naval personnel. This has enabled the Navy to save a large amount of money, which would otherwise be spent on sewing uniforms as well as create employment opportunities for women in several parts of the country.

The newly opened facility has been improved with more space and new batch of sewing machines and related equipment to increase production capacity and offer more job opportunities for unemployed women in the area.

The opening event was organized in compliance with COVID-19 protocols to prevent the spread of the pandemic and it was attended by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Sajith Gamage, Commodore Superintendent Logistic Eastern Naval Command, Commodore Thilak Sigera and a limited group of senior officers attached to the command.
