Newly constructed jetty declared open at Naval Detachment Kondachchikuda

Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularathna today (28th September 2021) declared open a new jetty constructed for berthing of small craft at the Naval Detachment of Kondachchikuda, administered by SLNS Therapuththa in the Northwestern Naval Command.

Completion of this berthing facility is a realization of a long-felt need for naval craft patrolling the seas of Silawathura, with a view to curbing illegal activities originating from the coastal waters. Accordingly, the new facility which was made possible in short period of time utilizing the able manpower and expertise of the Command Civil Engineering Department and Diving Unit, will help serve above security purposes in an effective manner.

The opening was organized in compliance with COVID-19 protocols to prevent the spread of the pandemic. Deputy Area Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Commodore Prasad Kariyapperuma and a limited group of naval personnel were also present on this occasion.
