Series of events organized to commemorate naval war veterans

To coincide with the 12th National War Heroes’ Day, the Navy organized its main event to commemorate naval war veterans, under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Naval War Hero Monument in Welisara on 19^th May 2021. On the sidelines of this, a series of programmes to recall the cherished memory of fallen combatants of the Navy were held in Naval Commands.

The commemorative event in the Northern Naval Command was held at Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Uththara on 18th May 2021 under the auspices of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera. Meanwhile, the Southeastern Naval Command had organized its naval war hero commemorative event at the war hero monument in Muwangala area, Ampara. In the same vein, commemorative events were organized at the Naval and Maritime Academy and 04^th Fast Attack Flotilla Headquarters in the Eastern Naval Command.

Similarly, the Southern Naval Command arranged a lunch to the children and staff members at Sambodhi Children's Home in Magalla, Galle and offered Alms and Pirikara for members of Maha Sangha at the Sri Gunananda Pirivena, Hambantota on 18^th and 19^th May 2021.

All these events had been organized adhering to COVID-19 protocols for the arrest of the transmission of the pandemic and they were participated by a limited group of naval personnel
