Naval personnel donate blood in Hambantota
A blood donation campaign organized by the Navy and National Blood Transfusion Service was held with the contribution of naval personnel at Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Kawanthissa, Hambantota today (14th May 2021).
Responding to a request of the Director Blood Bank of Hambantota this initiative was launched in the backdrop where blood reserves in the Blood Bank of Hambantota are reducing with the effects of COVID-19. As such this timely drive was set in motion going by the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and supervision of Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Prasanna Hewage at SLNS Kawanthissa.
Despite the pandemic situation, the officers and sailors attached to SLNS Kawanthissa were very enthusiastic to contribute for the success of this noble cause, taking it as an urgent need of this hour.
The staff of the Hambantota Blood Bank and the Navy medical staff extended their fullest support to make this event a success and the programme was held adhering to COVID-19 protocols in force for the prevention of the spread of the pandemic. Meanwhile, the Navy remains alert to make its all-out support during any form of eventuality in the country.
